Missions

“…Freely you have received, freely give.” –Matthew 10:8

As United Methodists in general and specifically as Yorkville United Methodists, we have always had a deep concern for helping those in need. Jesus taught us to help others in need and share our blessings. To learn more about why this is important to us, see Importance of Missions. At Yorkville United Methodist Church we believe in supporting both local and international missions, several of which you can learn more about by following the links below. We also respond to disasters locally and around the world. Our missions are funded through special offerings, through various church groups, and from general offerings. Does it sound like missions should be your mission? You can become a part of the Mission Team by making your wishes known!

Helping Others Through…

Food Bank

“He sent them all the food they could eat.” –Psalm 78:25

Have you ever felt the pangs of hunger? For some this is a never-ending feeling. Please do not think this just happens in under-developed countries; it happens right here in our community. The Union Grove Area Food Bank strives to keep the hungry fed. Yorkville United Methodist is one of eleven churches assisting the Food Bank. Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate food by taking it to the Food Bank or bringing it with you to church.
  • Donate money.
  • Clean your closet and donate used clothing for the sales held in May and September (all items priced at or less than fifty cents).
  • Volunteer on the Board of Directors. Meetings are held the second Monday morning of the month at 8:30 a.m.

If you need assistance:

  • Request help through our pastor, Human Services or the Food Bank Director.
  • Ask the Salvation Army about vouchers for help with late rent or utilities.
  • Sign up for a holiday food basket. They are distributed at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Request help to get your family through a sudden illness, job loss or other unfortunate event.

Stop hunger of your soul by attending church, and stop hunger for others by supporting the Food Bank!

Mujila Falls Agriculture Center

Yorkville United Methodist Church supports Rev. Paul Webster in his mission to teach and provide for people in Zambia, Africa. Through supporting this mission Rev. Paul Webster has been able to help many individuals learn to farm for a source of income as well as a way to better support the community and their families.

Come and help us preserve the beauty of the earth!

Work Camp

“…be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” –2 Chronicles 15:7

During the summer, dedicated youth and adults serve in a work camp. The purpose of the work camp is to help people in need or to assist a church agency in its ministry. Several work camps have helped our United Methodist Camps in Wisconsin.

Youth need to be in middle school to high school to participate. Persons attending need to be in good health and able to do physical work. Check out our Camps page for more on other types of camps available. Activities during work camp may include:

  • Cleaning up debris from wind storms.
  • Painting.
  • Yard work.
  • Cleaning.
  • Assembling health and student kits.
  • Recreation & Fellowship.

You are invited to help us do the Lord’s work through service ministry!

Importance of Missions

“Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” –1 Corinthians 15:58

Christ called us to be making disciples of Jesus Christ in all the world (Matthew 28:28). Christ called us also to have compassion on those who have needs in his general command to “love one another as I have loved you.” Part of the discipline of our membership is the encouragement to be involved in at least one mission program of the church. We also fiscally support missions locally, regionally and globally. We are a church that is proud of our tradition of paying 100% of our fair share of denominational apportionments which are used for support of ministries in our state and world.

Our church is proud to support many local ministries, including The Union Grove Veterans Home; Veteran’s Outreach; HALO; Love, Inc; Union High School supplies services; the Union Grove Food Bank and local families who need support.

Yorkville United Methodist Church is extremely supportive of mission needs,

Join us as we give freely of ourselves to help others!
